history

Johann Peter Lever

The house, which was built in 1562, was given its present-day appearance in 1718. The Hebel family lived on the upper floor, which Ursula Hebel, the poet's mother, had received through an inheritance. Johann Peter Hebel spent the first 13 years of his life there, but only during the winter months; in the summer the family lived in Basel , where his parents were employed by a patrician family. When he went to Karlsruhe after his mother's death in 1773 , he sold his inheritance to the Gresgen citizen Jakob Böhler the following year . After 1787 there were several changes of ownership. In 1850 the Schopfheimer Reading Society for the Plow acquired the upper floor for 651 guilders, in 1862 it left it to the Hausener Leveraging Foundation for 1000 guilders. In 1875 the foundation was finally able to take ownership of the entire house. It was inhabited by tenants until 1958, which caused the structure to suffer a lot. Therefore, the local council decided to renovate it and then convert it into a museum. On the poet's 200th birthday in 1960, the lever family's apartment, which has been preserved in its original state, was opened as a local museum. In 2009 the renovation of the museum began. On May 10, 2010, on the 250th birthday of Hebels, the house was reopened as a literature museum. The old furniture, documents, pictures and objects that were in the house were inspected under the aspect of authenticity and, in the case of authenticity and verifiable belonging to the estate of Johann Peter Hebel and his family, integrated into the new exhibition.

There is a multifunctional room on the ground floor, where you can get married, for example. It houses some interesting documents and objects, like the death lock and the walking stick, or some letters from him to friends and acquaintances. On the first floor you can find the Hebels apartment, in which he lived with his mother until he was 13 years old. At this level, the Alemannic poems are in the foreground, above all Die Wiese and Die Vergänlichkeit . In addition, you can see, for example, the stove where his mother Johann Peters prepared “ Habermus ” for him, which is also part of one of his poems. In the attic there all find lever Price -carrier and lever plaques -carrier again. Furthermore, a lot can be learned about the supra-regional effect and spread of lever. You can also see impressions of the Hebelfest , which is celebrated every year on May 10th in Hausen im Wiesental in honor of Johann Peter Hebel's birthday.
