history
When John Smith submitted the first zoning plan for Hebron in 1827, the Ohio-Erie Canal was already under construction. On July 4th, 1825, the governor of New York DeWitt Clinton broke ground for the construction of the canal a few kilometers north of the settlement. The canal was completed by Hebron in 1828. At the same time, the Old National Trail , now US Highway 40 , ran through the settlement. This intersection of two major transportation routes in the United States made Hebron an important hub. The city's motto to this day is "Hebron - Historic Crossroads of Ohio".
