Hedda von Schmid

Hedda von Schmid (name after marriage: Hedda von Riesemann ; * September 11th July / September 23rd 1864 greg. In Pernau , Livonia as Hedwig Amalie Hermine von Schmid ; † January 13th 1921 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

Hedda von Schmid was the daughter of a German Baltic customs officer . She lived in Riga from 1869 . In 1873 her father Theodor was transferred to the Kalmuck steppe near Astrakhan , where she accompanied him. Hedda von Schmid did not return to Livonia until 1879 to finish her schooling there. In 1890 she married the landowner Arthur von Riesemann, with whom she lived on the Sternberg estate near the Estonian town of Hapsal . Most recently she was based in Berlin.

Hedda von Schmid's literary work includes novels, short stories and poems. She worked for German Baltic and Saint Petersburg newspapers. Both her Baltic homeland and the long stay in the Kalmyk area played an important role in her work.
