The Hedwigiales are an order of the moss . It is named after Johannes Hedwig (1730–1799), the founder of modern bryology .
features
They are medium to large, acrocarpic or, more rarely, cladocarpic mosses with irregularly branched trunks. A central strand in the trunk cross-section is missing. Pseudoparaphyllies are usually present. The leaves usually lack a vein. The spore capsule can be sunk into the bracts or raised from them. Peristome and annulus (cell ring to detach the capsule lid) are usually missing. The kalyptra is cap-shaped, glabrous and smooth.

Three families are placed in the Hedwigiales
- Bryowijkiaceae with one genus and two species, in Asia and Madagascar
- Hedwigiaceae , four genera with 28 species
- Rhacocarpaceae , two genera with nine species
