Hedychrum ardens is a species fromthe golden wasps family (Chrysididae).

features

The wasps reach a body length of 3.5 to 5 millimeters. Her body is colored metallic red, there are golden areas on the thorax . The pleura , the legs and the postscutellum of the males are colored green. The scales on the wing joint ( tegulae ) are not shiny metallic. It is very difficult to distinguish the species from the other species in the genus Hedychrum .

Occurrence

The species occurs in North Africa and Europe, east to the Middle East. They colonize low-temperature, slightly overgrown habitats with sand and loess. The animals fly from late May to early September. They can be found widespread in Central Europe.

Way of life

Hedychrum ardens parasitizes mainly in the digger wasps Tachysphex pompiliformis , Oxybelus bipunctatus and probably also in the Tachysphex nitidus complex.
