Hee Haw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hee Haw was an American television series that aired weekly from June 15, 1969 to December 27, 1992. The show was mostly aimed at a rural audience and consisted of a mixture of traditional country music and skits and puns of the rough sort. The name is derived from the screaming of a donkey, which was part of the backdrop as an animated cardboard figure. The show masters were the well-known country musicians Roy Clark and Buck Owens .

history

Originally, Hee Haw was supposed to bridge the summer break of another series, but the simple show was so well received by the target group that it lasted for more than two decades. For image reasons, CBS, the initiator of the series, withdrew in 1971 despite the high ratings. It was then produced in Nashville by WLAC and distributed by tape to numerous other television stations across the country. In 1986 Buck Owens left and Roy Clark went on alone. From around this point on, the ratings dropped. A modernization initiated in 1991, with which one also wanted to appeal to an urban audience, failed, and so the show, renamed Hee Haw Silver , was canceled a year later.

In contrast to the speaking parts, the country music performed was of recognized high quality. Virtually all of the greats of the scene performed here, from George Jones to George Strait to Garth Brooks . Newcomers and old stars rounded off the program. A well-rehearsed team, which also included country icons like Grandpa Jones and Minnie Pearl , told the same jokes for years. The skits usually took place in cornfields, hair salons, grocery stores and the like. Lush beauties in tight-fitting dresses formed another indispensable part. The individual scenes were subsequently synchronized and cut into a one-hour program.

In early 2014, preparations began for Hee Haw: The Musical on Broadway in New York City . Steve Buchanan of the Opry Entertainment Group will produce the film and Robert Horn will write the script. The musical is to have its premiere in spring 2015.
