Hefner was a British indie rock band. It was founded in 1995 in London . After 2002 they only had one appearance together, in honor of John Peel , who was an important patron of the band.

history

Founding members Darren Hayman and Antony Harding met in 1992 at the Kent Art School . The band began to give concerts in 1995 with a changing line-up. On early recordings, Hayman played all the instruments himself, only supplemented by Harding's backing vocals. On the first release A Better Friend (1997) Harding took over the drums and John Morrison the bass.

Hefner's debut album Breaking God's Heart was released in 1998. It was recorded practically in one take with little technical effort. From the next album The Fidelity Wars, Jack Hayter added to the cast. It was rather dark and revolved around the idea of separation. In 2000, Hefner released a collection of previously released singles and EPs on Boxing Hefner as well as an album of new songs, We Love the City . Compared to previous ones, this album was more sophisticatedly orchestrated and more elaborately recorded.
