the Hegisplatz in Chur

The Hegisplatz is a publicly accessible place reserved for non-motorized traffic in the Grisons canton capital Chur .

Hegisplatz is located in the east of the old town and is surrounded by several historically significant buildings:

  • The Hegishaus goes back to the eponymous Hegi family from Zurich , who lived in the house in the 16th and 17th centuries.
  • The Red House is a baroque building from 1637.
  • The guild house of the shoemaker has a tower of 1510, after the place formerly was called: space to nüwen tower .
  • The Haus zum Meerhafen is one of the first new buildings after the devastating city fire of 1464; the origin of the peculiar name can no longer be explained.
