Heide Ziegler

Heide Ziegler (born April 5, 1943 in Sagan ) is a German literary scholar and was Professor of American Studies and Modern English Literature at the University of Stuttgart from 1984–1998 and 2005–2011 .

Life

After her state examination in classical philology and English literature in 1969 at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , she received her PhD in American literature from the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg in 1976. phil. doctorate and habilitation there in 1982 .

Following a visiting professorship at the University of Texas at Austin from 1982 to 1984, Ziegler was appointed to the Chair of American Studies and Modern English Literature at the University of Stuttgart in 1984 . From 1990 to 1992 she was Vice Rector for Teaching and from 1992 to 1996 Rector of the University of Stuttgart.

In 1998 she became co-founder and president of the private International University in Germany in Bruchsal . She left the university on September 30, 2005 to return to the University of Stuttgart.

Heide Ziegler is particularly involved in education policy . Her literary interests range from the influence of antiquity on European literature to the canon debate to postmodern and contemporary English and American literature.
