Heidelberger Tageblatt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heidelberger Tageblatt was a daily newspaper founded in 1883 (first publication October 1, 1883) for Heidelberg and the surrounding area, which was discontinued on December 31, 1982. The last edition was 20,000 newspapers a day. It was last owned by the Haas Group .

history

The Tageblatt was founded in 1883. The daily newspaper emerged from the Heidelberger Generalanzeiger . As recently as 1933, five local daily newspapers appeared in Heidelberg. Between May 1937 and 1945 they were incorporated into the national community . After the Second World War, two of the originally five daily newspapers remained: the then SPD-affiliated Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung and the smaller, conservative Heidelberger Tageblatt, which was initially partially owned by the Haas Group and in 1968 completely. This publishing house also owns the Mannheimer Morgen Großdruckerei und Verlag GmbH.

profile

In the 1960s, at the time of the student revolt, the two local newspapers exchanged their political positions: While the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung moved to the right and was brought closer to "Rathaus-Journalismus", the Tageblatt tried to create a liberal profile . The number of copies increased slowly, but could never match that of the RNZ. The fact that skilled journalists worked for the Tageblatt is shown, for example, by the career of regional manager Dieter Wacker , who made a career for the Südkurier after the Tageblatt was closed .

Appearance area

The Tageblatt was last published in Mannheimer Morgen. In addition to an independent local and culture editorial office in Heidelberg, it maintained four external editorial offices in Eberbach, Mosbach, Sinsheim and Wiesloch.

The End

As a small regional newspaper, the low circulation was in deficit. Ultimately, the daily newspaper was only kept by the Haas Group as a depreciation item. In order to be able to invest in private and cable television, which was in its infancy at the time, the Haas Group discontinued the Tageblatt on December 31, 1982, not least in order to survive against the strong rival newspapers Rheinpfalz and Stuttgarter Zeitung .
