Heidi Kirste

Heidi Kirste (born February 27, 1966 in Dannenberg ) is a German athlete in wheelchair basketball .

After a riding accident at the age of 14, Heidi Kirste started wheelchair basketball during medical rehabilitation. At the age of 18 she became an Olympic champion as a player in the German national wheelchair basketball team. Among other things, she was Olympic ambassador for the city of Hamburg. At the Summer Paralympics 2000 in Sydney , she led the German team as the flag bearer. After the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens , she ended her international career after playing 215 internationals.

After the end of her active career, Kirste worked as a trainer. So she built up the national team of U25 juniors in wheelchair basketball and was head coach at the first U25 World Cup in Canada in 2011 . In addition, she got involved with RSC Hamburg and Hamburger SV to promote young talent.
