Heiko Hentrich

Heiko Hentrich (* 1976 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German biologist, he is an internationally recognized specialist in flower biology and head of pharmacognosy in the German Homeopathy Union and head of pharmaceutical plant production Terra Medica at Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH in Karlsruhe . He is particularly interested in the orchid family (Orchidaceae), for which he is considered a worldwide expert.

Live and act

Hentrich graduated from high school in Schwäbisch Hall in 1996 and then studied biology at Ulm University from 1997-2003 with a semester abroad in Costa Rica . The diploma thesis: “Morphological and flower biological parameters of a population of the Gongora quinquenervis (Orchidaceae) complex in Costa Rica” was written by Gerhard Gottsberger in the Department of Systematic Botany and Ecology at the University of Ulm. The doctorate to Dr. rer nat with the dissertation: “The reproductive biology of euglossine-pollinated plants in the Natural Reserve Nouragues, French Guiana” at the same university in 2008.

From 2010 to 2014 Hentrich was a lecturer for special tasks in the ecosystem analysis working group at the Institute for Environmental Sciences at the University of Koblenz-Landau . From 2014 to 2015, Hentrich was curator of the Jany Renz orchid collection, Department of Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Land Use working group at the University of Basel .

Since August 2015 Hentrich has been team leader for medicinal plant cultures in Stutensee - Staffort and laboratory manager for pharmacognosy, German Homeopathy Union and the Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH and CO KG, Karlsruhe. His fields of activity are the technical management of medicinal plant cultures and pharmacognosy including pharmacopoeia work, nature conservation law and quality assurance.
