The Bad Lauchstädt Castle is a Grade II listed building in the town of Bad Lauchstädt in Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the castle is listed as an architectural monument under registration number 094 20658 .

history

A royal palace of Emperor Heinrich II in Bad Lauchstädt was already mentioned in the 11th century. In the 14th century a moated castle is mentioned in the possession of the bishops of Merseburg , who had the moated castle converted into their residence from 1528 to 1536 in renaissance style. The building, now called the castle, was repaired in 1585. Duke Philipp von Sachsen-Merseburg had the castle rebuilt as his residence in 1684 after it was badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War . After the Duke's death in 1690, it served as his wife's widow's residence until she moved to the castle in Forst in 1704 . In the early 18th century it served as the preferred summer residence of the Merseburg dukes. During the period from 1775 to 1780 the castle was partially redesigned.

In 1903 the west wing with the chapel was replaced by a school building. The castle was expanded to include a stair tower in 1906. The two-storey main building now houses apartments with timber frame windows and a school. The former farm building on the north side of the palace complex now serves as a fire brigade base.

There is an inscription underneath.

The spa complex , also a listed building, south of the palace complex, was built in 1735, probably according to plans by Johann Michael Hoppenhaupt .

location
