Holy Spirit Church from the East

The Heilig-Geist-Kirche is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Hanau district of Lamboy . The parish belongs to the diocese of Fulda .

history

With the influx of displaced persons from eastern Germany after the Second World War , the need for a Roman Catholic church in the still young Lamboy district quickly arose alongside the Protestant parish that had already been established in this district a few years earlier and was in the immediate vicinity only a few years later built today's Kreuzkirche .

building

The Heilig-Geist-Kirche was built between 1961 and 1962 on a plot of land directly on the main traffic axis, Lamboystraße. Architecturally, the church looks from the outside as a cubic concrete and quarry stone building without any decorations, only two rows of windows at the upper edge and at the height of the eaves and a protrusion on the front adorn the building. The entrance is on the west side of the building. A courtyard wall separates the church tower, which is round in plan, and the sacristy from the surrounding district. As a holy place, the church should be separated from the surrounding district. The church is surrounded by the aforementioned main traffic axis by a fast food restaurant and simple apartments from the 1950s. To the west of the church is the parish hall, with a Roman Catholic kindergarten. The architect was Johannes Krahn , who also built many other churches. The concise, strongly tinted colored glass windows are striking. The building is now a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .
