history
The building of today's old people's home was originally a pilgrimage hostel of the noble women's monastery in Lindau. The hostel was possibly built as early as the 11th century, but was first mentioned in 1237 as Domus hospitalis in the chronicles. 20 years later, a separate seal was used. Since the establishment goes back to the abbesses, but the hospital soon became independent through numerous donations of land and in kind, there is no official charter today. In addition to its role as a care institution for the sick and poor, the hospital was an important economic factor and employer at that time, which required a large number of workers for its vineyards, fields, forests and ponds and the processing of the products. In 1525 the hospital with the free imperial city of Lindau became Protestant in the course of the Reformation . Five patronage churches, however, remained with the old faith, as they were in the high court of the Catholic Counts of Montfort. The hospital also continued to use Catholic clergy in their schools in the surrounding area. Due to the secularization in 1805, the hospital was forced to give up property that was not used for hospital operations, such as the land.
The hospital served as a military hospital during the First World War .
