The Holy Cross Church in Landsberg am Lech is located on a hill above the old town. The former Jesuit church was consecrated in 1754. Before that, a previous building from 1584 had already stood in the same place; this was one of the first churches of the order in Germany.

The rococo furnishings date from the middle of the 18th century. The ceiling fresco was created by Christoph Thomas Scheffler . The high altar painting by Johann Baptist Baader from 1758 shows the crucifixion of Christ. The Holy Cross Church is designed as a novitiate church . This is shown by depictions of the religious saints Aloisius von Gonzaga , Francisco de Xavier , Ignatius von Loyola , Paul Miki and companions as well as Stanislaus Kostka .

In addition to the Holy Cross Church, in the north is the old Jesuit college building (today a retirement home and agricultural education center in the Upper Bavaria district ) and in the south the former Jesuit grammar school (today the New City Museum).

The founder of the college and the church was Count Schweikhard von Helfenstein (1539–1599), President of the Imperial Court of Justice , imperial governor of Tyrol and ducal caretaker in Landsberg. He was also active as an author, publicist and promoter of the Catholic Reform . His Renaissance tomb is located in the Holy Cross Church and was taken over from the previous building. In 1578, at the opening of the Jesuit College, St. Petrus Canisius , who was one of Helfenstein's circle of friends, was present.
