Heiligenstadt rendez-vous polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heiligenstädter Rendez-Vous-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 78). The work was performed for the first time on July 8, 1850 in Kugler's Badhaus in Heiligenstadt (Vienna) .

Remarks

The polka was composed and performed there on the occasion of a summer festival of the Kugler family of restaurateurs in Heiligenstadt, which was still quite remote at the time. Back then, Strauss tried to build a catchment area as geographically large as possible in the greater Vienna area. Therefore, he also appeared in the outskirts of the capital. The name of the polka is simply derived from the location of the premiere. Incidentally, Kugler's Badhaus no longer exists today. It was not far from the house where Ludwig van Beethoven wrote the letter in 1802 that went down in history as the Heiligenstadt Testament .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 13 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
