The Holy Spring is a brook in Hattingen that flows into the Ruhr on the left . It rises in Niederbonsfeld , flows in a steep, wooded Siepen along the waterway to the east and joins the Isenbergbach (Isenberger Bach) just before it flows into the Ruhr downstream of the restaurant "Zum Deutschen" .
The water of the brook had the reputation of having healing powers, for example Heinrich Kämpchen in 1909 in his poem “The Holy Spring”.
- He was once holy to the ancients,
- The legend tells of this
- And magical through dedication
- For the frail and the wounded.
In its streambed lies a granite rock called Heidenstein .
