Holy Spirit Citadel

The Heiliggeist Citadel is located on the Heiligeist plateau in Luxembourg (city) .

In 1234 the Holy Spirit Monastery was founded on the square of the same name. With the construction of the third curtain wall in the 14th century, the plateau was incorporated into the fortified part of the city ; It received its military character in the 16th century during the first Spanish rule. The final shape of the Heiliggeist rock goes back to the years 1685 to 1687, when the French fortress builder Vauban expanded the location of the citadel and strengthened the ramparts and bulwarks to bastions .
