Heimdalls Wacht is a German pagan metal band from Ahlen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The band describes their style as "anti-Christian pagan music".

history

The band was founded as a side project of The Martyrium , because the members wanted to implement a certain concept "which only marginally fit into The Martyrium context" and was therefore better off as a side project. The first album Westfälischer Schlachtenlärm was released in 2005.

style

The style is Pagan Metal. According to the band itself, the reviews of the musical work turned out very differently, some called it an unmistakable, unique style, while the others only spoke of another band in the “uniform”.

Lyrically, the band differs from other pagan bands mainly in that there are no declarations of war on Christianity or other religions on the albums.

Right-wing extremism allegations

Heimdalls Wacht released on the Christhunt Productions label , which also publishes right-wing extremist bands. The band of origin The Martyrium released their album Todesrunen on the Nebelklang label of the right-wing extremist band Absurd . Because of titles such as The Shine of the Black Sun or Under the Banner of the White Hand , a right-wing extremist attitude of the band was suspected on various occasions. The music is classified as NSBM by some observers . She was accused of having “a positive opinion about relevant Nazi Black Metal bands [like] Totenburg , Absurd ”, and the singer is also said to have “invoked crude right-wing extremist conspiracy theories”.

The band said that "those who want to see us in the right spectrum do it, those who have some idea of the matter, anyway know that we don't belong there". Specifying more closely, however, according to the published statement, they emphasize that political ideologies, especially from the extreme fringes, are resolutely rejected and further confess a clear rejection of fascist-right-wing extremist and left-wing extremist ideologies. A liberal legal order is eminently important in order to secure the postulate of autonomy of art that they consider to be worth striving for and that should not intervene in political and secular matters. Band member Saruman emphasized that despite all the accusations he is proud of his homeland Westphalia and its history and that people who “confuse patriotism with political ideologies (...)” are just stupid for him. According to a conversation with the Heathen Harvest network magazine, it is expressly not a question of proclaiming the superiority of a particular culture or "race", but of referring to cultural individuality that is felt to be worth preserving.
