The Heimkehrerkapelle is a chapel in Stangenroth , a district of the Lower Franconian market Burkardroth in the Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen .

The 13 stations of the cross leading to the chapel belong to the architectural monuments of Burkardroth and are registered under the number D-6-72-117-144 in the Bavarian monument list .

history

The Heimkehrerkapelle was built in 1946 as a successor to the Chapel of Sorrows , which was also located on the old road to the basalt works. The location of the homecoming chapel is offset from the location of the previous chapel by 50 meters towards the edge of the forest. The Heimkehrerkapelle was founded in 1946 to thank so many local men who had returned from World War II and that Stangenroth was not destroyed during the war. It also serves to commemorate the fallen of the place.

The high cross belonging to the complex dates from 1839 and, as the inscription on the base indicates, was donated by Valtin Krug, Johann Michel Voll and Johann Kriner.

The Way of the Cross leading to the chapel via Kapellenweg 9 and comprising 13 stations was made by Gebhard Keßler in 1958 and is now a listed building. Gerhard Keßler's stations replace the stations of a way of the cross, which may have been built around 1800 and was demolished in 1930 when the road network was rebuilt and has since disappeared.

The seven stations in front of the chapel represent the Seven Sorrows of Mary and are by Alfred Keßler. According to the inscription, the seven pain station was donated by Alfred and Regina Keßler in Stangenroth in 1951.

The Pietà above the altar was created by the carver Gebhard Keßler from Stangenroth. The chapel houses statues of St. Judas Thaddäus , St. Joseph , St. Archangel Michael and St. Rita .

The fellow soldiers and reservists from Stangenroth, who took care of the care and maintenance of the homecoming chapel, expressed doubts about the correctness of the name of the chapel in 2013. He decided to investigate whether the name Heimkehrerkapelle is justified, or whether the name from the previous chapel is still valid.

As part of the necessary repair of the Stations of the Cross created by Gebhard Keßler, there is disagreement between the town hall and the parish of Stangenroth on the question of who is the owner of the Stations of the Cross and therefore responsible for the repair.
