The Heimstettener See is located east of Munich in the Munich gravel plain in the area of the communities of Kirchheim (in the eponymous district Heimstetten ), Aschheim and Feldkirchen . It is called Fiji by the locals and in the surrounding area.

description

The groundwater lake was created between 1937 and 1938 after the end of gravel mining operated by the Reichsbahn on the site. Today the 11.1 hectare quarry pond, which has been completely redesigned as a recreation area, is  a popular bathing lake. It is 12.5 m deep at the deepest point.

Bringing animals and cycling is prohibited on Lake Heimstetten during the swimming season from May 1st to September 30th. The Heimstettener See restaurant with beer garden is located on the north bank and is open in the summer months. Access to the ice surface is prohibited in the winter months; however, there is a lot of ice skating and ice stock sport in the northern part. On the south bank, on the other hand, a strip of the lake usually remains open even when it is very cold, because there the groundwater, which is a few degrees warmer, flows into the lake.

There is plenty of space on the 6.9 hectare sunbathing area and trees provide shade.

Immediately west of the Heimstettener See and only separated from it by an earth wall is a gravel pit belonging to Deutsche Bahn that is still active .
