Heiner Vischer

Heiner Vischer (born October 14, 1956 in Basel ) is a Swiss biologist and politician ( LDP ).

Life

He grew up in Basel and Riehen . After graduating from the Realgymnasium Basel , he studied biology at the University of Basel and graduated in 1984 with a diploma. He received his doctorate in 1988 and studied at the University of California, San Diego from 1986 to 1992 . From 1992 to 2000 various post-doctoral research projects followed in the United States and at the Biozentrum and Zoological Institute of the University of Basel. In 2001 he founded a biotech company in Basel.

Vischer has been a member of the Cantonal Parliament (Grand Council) of the Canton of Basel-Stadt since 2007 . He was President of the Grand Council from February 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020.

Vischer is president or member of the board of trustees of various foundations and advocates ecological and cultural issues. He is on the board of the Basel sinfonietta and academy council and vice-president of the Foundation for the Promotion of the Basel Music Academy .

Vischer is a former member of the Swiss Zofinger Association and manager of the EE Zunft zum Schlüssel .
