Heiningen is an Alemannic foundation in the 5th century and originally consisted of individual independent farms. The place is one of the oldest settlements in the Rems-Murr district. 1134 the place was in connection with a donation of goods of the Margrave Hermann III. mentioned to the Abbey of Backnang .

The place belonged to the Württemberg Oberamt Backnang , since 1938 to the newly formed district of Backnang .

Only the village of the same name belonged to the community of Heiningen. It had an area of ​​2.75 km² and was incorporated into Backnang on January 1, 1972.
