Heinrich (Münsterschwarzach)

Heinrich († September 10, 1339 ) was abbot of the Benedictine monastery in Münsterschwarzach from 1334 to 1339 .

Münsterschwarzach before Heinrich

The sources of the 13th and 14th centuries for the Münsterschwarzach Abbey are very vague. Abbot Gottfried , the first abbot in this century, was commissioned by the Pope to investigate the miracles that had occurred at the grave of Bishop Otto of Bamberg. Under one of his successors, Abbot Herold , the monastery burned for the first time on November 22nd, 1228 because a battle was taking place in the nearby town of Schwarzach .

In the second half of the 13th century, the monastery convent split into two camps. The reason was a dispute between two abbots who both wanted to exercise power over the monastery: Konrad I. Zobel was the rightful prelate and ultimately also prevailed, while Konrad II planned the resignation of his abbot to be able to receive the high pension. The church of St. Maria de Rosario in Dimbach was rebuilt under Heinrich's direct predecessor, Abbot Johannes I.

Life

Nothing is known precisely about the youth and origin of Abbot Heinrich. He was presumably ordained in 1334 and headed the abbey for five years. Heinrich was first handed down as abbot on March 14, 1335, when he was mentioned on a document. During his tenure, the church in Dimbach was completed. Abbot Henry the church has appreciated by abordnete two priests there, and so the later provost established in the place of pilgrimage.

In 1335 he regulated the supply of the Dimbach clergy in a document. Heinrich himself also supported the pilgrimage to Dimbach and ordered his convent to make a pilgrimage to the Church of St. Maria de Rosario twice a year, the day before the Annunciation and the Assumption. However, there were no other mentions of Abbot Heinrich, also due to the short term in office. He died on September 10, 1339.
