Heinrich Aerne , also Heinrich Aerni (born February 24, 1926 in Alt St. Johann ; † June 3, 2013 in Herisau ; entitled to live in Oberhelfenschwil ), was an artist of the brut / Outsider Art.

life and work

Heinrich Aerne was born with a disability and never learned to read or write. At the age of 16 he was assigned to the founding house of the Waldheim Foundation in Rehetobel , where people with mental, physical and psychological impairments were cared for. In 1975 the company moved to the newly opened Eben-Ezer in Teufen AR . Here Aerne was also used for care services. A caretaker encouraged him to draw so that he could keep himself busy during the night watch. From 1989 Aerne devoted himself mainly to drawing, whereby watercolors were also created. He drew his works with "Heinrich" or "Heinrih". In 1991 Aerne came to the Alpstein retirement home in Teufen.

The Museum in the Warehouse in St. Gallen thanks to the 2014 acquired collection of Mina and Joseph John has a significant installed base of Aerne.
