from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Baak (born July 29, 1886 in Marienfeld , † July 2, 1933 in Cologne ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Heinrich Baak was born on July 29, 1886 in Marienfeld. From 1900 to 1904 he learned the craft of sculpture from Heinrich Hartmann in Wiedenbrück . Afterwards he worked in various workshops, including Peter Tilmanns in Erkelenz . Baak went to Cologne around 1910 to set up a figurist department in August Schmidt's workshop with his nephew. All works that were created up to the Great Depression are by these two. With the crisis, Baak fell into unemployment and kept afloat with occasional work such as carving furniture.

Heinrich Baak died on July 2, 1933 in Cologne.

Works

Since Baak was never independent, most of his works are not ascribed to his name but to that of the workshop. With certainty, however, the memorial plaque for the fallen of the First World War in the former Marienfeld monastery church and three of the nativity figures there can be proven.
