Heinrich Bellermann

Johann Gottfried Heinrich Bellermann (born March 10, 1832 in Berlin , † April 10, 1903 in Potsdam ) was a German musicologist and composer .

Life

Heinrich Bellermann was the son and pupil of the musicologist Johann Friedrich Bellermann (1795–1874) and grandson of the theologian Johann Joachim Bellermann (1754–1842), who owes the reintroduction of singing lessons in the Prussian school system . He first studied church music , then was a singing teacher at the Berlin grammar school "Zum Grauen Kloster" , in 1866 he became professor of music at the university as the successor to Adolf Bernhard Marx and in 1875 a member of the Royal Academy of Arts . For many years he was a member of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin .

Among other things, he wrote “The Mensural Notes and Time Marks in the 15th and 16th Centuries” (1858) and the textbook “The Counterpoint” (1862), which was widely used until around 1900. He composed almost exclusively a cappella music ( motets , psalms , songs ). The church musician and composer Carl Thiel was one of his students from 1888 to 1891 .
