Heinrich David

Heinrich David (born June 29, 1856 in Rio de Janeiro , † December 23, 1935 in Zurich ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician.

Life

Heinrich David, son of a businessman and Swiss consul general in Rio de Janeiro, attended schools in St. Gallen and then completed a law degree in Strasbourg , Leipzig and Basel , which he obtained with a doctorate in law. iur. completed. After being admitted to the bar, he worked from 1883 to 1887 as a public prosecutor in St. Gallen and from 1887 to 1890 in the same position in Basel. From 1890 to 1897 he was president of the criminal court in Basel-Stadt . In the same canton he also went through a political career: from 1890 to 1896 he was a free-thinking Grand Councilor and from 1897 to 1910 a member of the government. He also represented this canton in the National Council after the parliamentary elections from 1899 to 1908. From 1910 to 1918 he was Vice Chancellor of the Confederation. David also emerged as a writer of legal, historical, and literary works.

The daughter Linda David (1891–1955) was married to the chemist and university professor Hans Eduard Fierz from 1911 .
