Heinrich Eber

Heinrich Eber (born November 18, 1915 in Heidelberg , † October 10, 2008 in Erfurt ) was a German Protestant pastor and civil rights activist.

Career

Eber trained as a catechist and pastor after the Second World War. In 1989 he played a key role in the political turnaround in Erfurt and, as a representative of the citizens' movement, was one of the first to storm the headquarters of the State Security in Erfurt's Andreasstrasse. After the fall of the Wall, he took over the management of the Stasi archive set up there.

On October 24, 1991, he was the first East German to be awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
