Heinrich Eisenach

Heinrich Eisenach (born November 6, 1814 in Kassel ( Electorate of Hesse ); † January 24, 1891 in Rotenburg an der Fulda ) was a Hessian animal and plant scientist . His main work is the flora of the Rotenburg an der Fulda district.

Life

Heinrich Eisenach was the son of the court lackeys Paul Eisenach and Friederike born, Alder. After attending the Lyceum Friedericianum zu Cassel (1824-1832) he studied medicine in Marburg. After completing his studies with a doctorate in 1836, he first worked as a doctor and obstetrician, later as a district physician and medical adviser in Rotenburg an der Fulda.

In addition to his medical work, he devoted himself to researching the north Hessian flora and fauna. He worked diligently to collect an extensive botanical, zoological and mineralogical collection. He published the results of his long-term field observations in 1883, 1885 and 1887 under the title “Natural history messages from the Rotenburg district” in the reports of the Wetterau Society for Natural History .

After his death, he bequeathed his extensive collection, which not only included finds from northern Hesse, but also extensive specimens and documents received in exchange, etc. a. from America, the city of Rotenburg an der Fulda, which was on permanent loan to the Natural History Museum in the Ottoneum , Kassel. In World War II, parts were destroyed in the collection. Species of fungus, lichen and moss survived.
