Heinrich Emanuel Grabowski

Heinrich Emanuel Grabowski (born July 11, 1792 in Leobschütz , † October 1, 1842 in Breslau ) was a German pharmacist and botanist in Silesia. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Grab. "

Life

In the grammar school in Leobschütz he completed the tertia and began training as a pharmacist with the medical assessor , pharmacist and botanist Karl Christian Günther (1769-1833) in Breslau. With Karl Günther and the Silesian botanist Friedrich Heinrich Wimmer , he published a directory of plants that occur in Silesia in 1824: Enumeratio stirpium phanerogamarum, quae in Silesia sponte proveniunt . In the years from 1827 to 1829 he wrote the three-volume work Flora Silesiae in Breslau with Friedrich Heinrich Wimmer .

Business trips to Prague and Vienna followed, where he attended pharmaceutical lectures. Heinrich Grabowski established himself as a pharmacist in Opole in 1824 . In 1836 he published an article on the occurrence of spring ragwort ( Senecio vernalis ) as well as supplements to the systematic directory of the botanists Rudolf Rohrer and Ernst Meyer .

When he became widowed, he sold the pharmacy and in 1840 moved to Breslau with three children. He then devoted himself to botanical research in Silesia and publications. He also conducted research in Moravian Jeseníky and in 1842 described the production of "forest wool" from pine and spruce needles near the town of Zuckmantel . He was a long-time member of the Silesian Society for Patriotic Culture .
