life and work

(Georg) Heinrich Forschner was born on October 30, 1853 in Bernhausen on the Fildern. He was married to Anna Berta Goldner and had eleven children with her, including the younger Heinrich Forschner . He grew up in Biberach an der Riß with his uncle Kipp, from whom he also learned the craft of a dental artist or dental technician. At the time when Heinrich Forschner learned this profession, there was no separation between dentists and dental technicians, as is the case today. There was also no university degree in dentistry. Dental treatment at that time was mainly carried out by bathers and surgeons and mostly consisted of only removing teeth. Replacing teeth was craftsmanship and also “art”, hence the term “dental artist”. Kipp and Forschner did not operate a practice either, as it is common today, but traded in the dentist's address book from 1903 as “Zahnatelier Kipp und Forschner”.

As a painter, Heinrich Forschner was initially self-taught; from 1885 he received painting lessons from Anton Braith and is therefore assigned to his school. As a Braith student, he mainly painted still lifes, portraits and rural scenes. Some of his works are exhibited in the Braith Mali Museum .

In 1901 he was one of the founders of the Biberach Art and Antiquities Association, which created the conditions for a museum for the legacies of Anton Braith and Christian Mali , which later became the Braith Mali Museum . For these services he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Biberach an der Riss on September 20, 1926 .
