The Braith-Mali-Museum is a multi-discipline museum in Biberach an der Riss in Upper Swabia.

history

Since 1898, numerous donors and patrons laid the foundation for a Biberach citizens' museum, which opened in 1902 in the historic rooms of the Hospital of the Holy Spirit . Among the important donors was the pastor and paleontologist Josef Probst , from whom not only palaeontological but also art-historical collectibles come.

With the takeover of the estate of the Munich painters Anton Braith (born in Biberach, 1836–1905) and Christian Mali (1832–1906) in the years 1905–1908, their representative, richly furnished studio rooms came to the Biberach Museum. Today the Braith Mali salons are considered to be the only fully preserved artist studios from the 19th century.

Numerous works by the most important German expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner have found their way into the museum because his brother Walter was a local heir in Biberach.
