Heinrich Frese

Heinrich Frese (born May 27, 1794 in Bremen , † July 20, 1869 in Bremen) was a German sculptor .

biography

In 1814, Frese first took part in the campaign against France as a hoboist (oboe player, military musician) for the Bremen infantry. After a short training period with the Bremen wood carver and sculptor Georg Andreas Steinhäuser, Frese went on a journey that took him to Paris, where he worked as a stone carver for six months. After his return to Bremen he carried out various sculptural works. In 1825 he became an honorary member of the Bremen Art Association . In 1826 he made the decorative relief work on the gate building of the Ostertor , as one of the few remaining works from his workshop. In 1840, as part of the Gothicization of the interior, five figures of the apostles he made were erected in Bremen Cathedral .
