Heinrich Gutersohn

Heinrich Gutersohn (born October 14, 1899 in Zurich ; † October 20, 1996 there ) was a Swiss geographer .

After training as a teacher, Gutersohn initially worked as an actuary , and from 1927 to 1941 as a secondary teacher in Zurich. He also studied geography, in 1931 he received his doctorate at the University of Zurich , and in 1936 his habilitation followed. From 1941 to 1971 Heinrich Gutersohn was a full professor at the ETH Zurich .

Gutersohn was head of the Institute for Local, Regional and National Planning at the ETH, a member of the Federal Commission for the Planning of the National Road Network and a member of the Swiss Commission for UNESCO .

The University of Geneva made him an honorary doctorate in 1966 .
