The Heinrich Harbisch Shipyard is founded in 1908 repair yard in Duisburg , which also ship technology manufactures - especially the in-house development of a steerable coupling for pushed convoys .

history

Master ship forge Hermann Harbisch founded a ship forge in the inner harbor of Duisburg on March 27, 1908 , where he manufactured shovels for handling coal. Initially on the side he repaired barges , which quickly became his main occupation. When he had to give up the area in the inner harbor in 1935, he moved the business to the current location in the outer harbor. In addition to a new workshop, he also set up a slewing crane and an embankment staircase with mooring devices there . When he died in 1948, his sons Heinrich, Fritz and, until 1960, Josef took over the company, which employed 35 people in the mid-1950s.

A 1965 build Helling later had to be removed because the bank has already secured three years. As a replacement, the shipyard built a first stevedock in 1968 and a second in 1973 , which enabled the propeller to be changed quickly . The shipyard gained supraregional importance through the invention of a special anchor and in particular a movable ship coupling, which are sold under the brand name "HA-DU". This allows coupled ships to “buckle” through a curve, which facilitates maneuverability, increases transport capacities and indirectly helped to avoid straightening rivers. The completely welded ship anchor developed by the shipyard is significantly lighter and therefore more economical than conventional models with better load-bearing capacity.

In 1982 the shipyard was converted into a GmbH and Heinrich Harbisch's daughter, Karin Wendt, joined the management, which she later took over on her own. In 2014 her daughter Kerstin Wendt joined as an additional managing director.

Location and facilities

The shipyard is located at the end of the Duisburg outer harbor near the city center. The yard's equipment includes two stevedocks to lift the bow or stern section of a ship out of the water. The larger dock has a length of 30 meters, an outside width of 20 and an inside width of 16.5 meters and can lift ships up to a length of 135 meters or 400 to 500 tons. The second stevedock has a length of 26 meters and an external width of 14 meters and an internal width of 11.5 meters. A locksmith's shop, a lathe shop and production facilities for the shipyard technology are housed on the shipyard's premises. The shipyard has been supplemented by a work boat since the 1970s.

Activity as a repair yard

Today the shipyard is mainly active in the repair of inland vessels, but also of river seagoing vessels and coasters . According to its own information, she carries out repairs of all kinds, core competencies are propeller changes, shaft and rudder repairs as well as work on bow thrusters . In addition, deck and locksmith work as well as pipe laying are carried out. This also includes welding work of all kinds and repairing accidents. For this purpose, shafts with a length of up to 10 meters can be repaired, reworked and manufactured in the turning shop.

The shipyard as a ship technology manufacturer

The ship couplings for push convoys and the weight-reduced anchor developed by the shipyard are installed in the company's own shipyard for overhaul and repair work, and are now also supplied as supplier products to new shipyards in Germany and abroad. In addition to these two products, the company also produces shaft seals, shaft systems, oars and rubber buffers, which are also passed on to other shipyards as supplier products.
