Heinrich Herlitzius

Heinrich Herlitzius (born October 31, 1887 in Osnabrück , † September 13, 1953 in Osnabrück) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Heinrich Herlitzius was born on October 31, 1887 in Osnabrück as the son of the shoemaker Franz Ferdinand Herlitzius (1861 to 1931) and his wife Anna Marie Elise Herlitzius. He attended primary school in Osnabrück. He started his apprenticeship at the JG Kisling printing company on April 8, 1902, and four years later became a machine setter. Herlitzius had been unionized since 1906. He became a member of the SPD in 1908. Between 1920 and 1933 he was district chairman of the Association of German Book Printers in the Osnabrück district. In the years from 1921 to 1936 he also worked as a proofreader on various occasions. He was arrested several times during the Nazi dictatorship. In 1938, after having previously worked in a printing company in Münster, he joined the company Meinders & Elstermann, where he worked as a machine setter and proofreader until his election as mayor . In 1946 he became a member of the appointed and later the elected city council of Osnabrück. The parish of St. Katharinen elected the staunch Christian and socialist to the church council in early 1946. He was twice mayor of the city of Osnabrück. His first term lasted from 1946 to 1948, and he was elected a second time for the period from 1949 to 1951. On December 28, 1951, Herlitzius had to resign as a result of a political intrigue. Rehabilitation came too late. Herlitzius was also a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from May 6, 1951 until his death on September 13, 1953.
