Heinrich Holtzinger

Carl Heinrich Sophus Georg Holtzinger (born August 15, 1856 in Oldenburg , † April 5, 1940 ibid) was a German art historian.

Life

Holtzinger attended the grammar school in his hometown Oldenburg and studied from 1875 to 1879 at the universities of Bonn , Leipzig and Tübingen . On January 31, 1879, he received his doctorate in Tübingen. phil. From 1879 to 1880 he was at the German Archaeological Institute in Rome and Athens and undertook study trips to Italy, Greece and Tunisia. On August 20, 1883, he took up a position as a private lecturer with medieval and modern art history at the University of Tübingen, where he was appointed associate professor on July 15, 1889. On October 1, 1891, he became a full professor of art history at the Technical University in Hanover . On leave of absence for health reasons since November 1906, he was retired on October 1, 1907, which he spent as a landowner in Tenever near Hemelingen and from 1927 in Oldenburg .
