Heinrich I von Heinsberg (* before 1224; † 1259 ), from the house of the Rhenish Sponheimers , was Lord of Heinsberg from 1228 to 1259.

Live and act

Heinrich I was the second son of Count Gottfried III. von Sponheim († 1223) and his wife Adelheid von Sayn . He married Agnes von Kleve -Heinsberg († 1267) around 1228/33 . Agnes was the daughter of Count Dietrich I of Falkenburg and Heinsberg († 1228). This made her heir to the Kleve-Heinsberg line, a subsidiary line of the Counts of Kleve, which had only appeared with Arnold II of Kleve . Heinrich received a number of Saynic possessions from his mother. Through his marriage to Agnes he inherited the titles and possessions of the Lords of Heinsberg. Through the Sayner legacy he was also Lord of Freusburg and inherited Löwenberg ,Saffenberg , Hülchrath and Blankenburg . The first historical mention of the district town of Heinsberg as the actual town takes place in 1255 in a document from Heinrich. He is considered the founder of the city of Heinsberg. His second son, Johann I. von Heinsberg, took the name "von Löwenburg" in 1269, and that is why the coat of arms of Bad Honnef (capital of the Löwenburg rule) shows the shield of Sponheim-Heinsberg to this day.
