Heinrich I of Minden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich († May 19, 1156 in Bursfelde Monastery ) was Bishop of Minden from 1140 to 1153 . He was later listed as Heinrich I in order to distinguish him from successors of the same name in the diocese of Minden.

Before he was appointed bishop, Heinrich was first a monk in Bursfelde Monastery and then abbot in St. Mauritius in Minden. In his reign as bishop Heinrich I founded the Loccum monastery (or the Luccaburg or the surrounding Fronhöfe). Pope Eugene III. had him recalled as bishop in 1153, because he did not do enough against attacks on clergy in the diocese. Heinrich returned to the monastery in Bursfelde and died there on the evening of Pudentiana (probably 19 May is meant) in 1156.
