Henry II (Namur)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry II of Courtenay (* ~ 1212/16; † 1229 ) was a Margrave of Namur from the House of Courtenay from 1226 to 1229 . He was the third of four sons of Peter of Courtenay († 1217/19) and the Jolante of Flanders († 1219).

Heinrich was under the age of a child throughout his life and was under the tutelage of Enguerrand III. by Coucy . In 1226 he succeeded his eldest brother Philip II, who died childless , because the second eldest Robert was emperor in distant Constantinople . It remains unclear whether Heinrich was considered his possible successor when he died in 1228.

In the possession of Namur, it was threatened by Count Ferdinand of Flanders , who himself claimed it. At the Reichstag of Aachen in March 1227, however, Heinrich was confirmed in possession of the Namurois. He died in the spring of 1229, after which his older sister Margarete took over the rule in Namur.
