Heinrich Klein (soccer player)

Heinrich Klein was a German football player who made it to the finals for the German championship twice with Meidericher SV .

Career in football

Probably in the summer of 1928 Klein moved up to the first team at Meidericher SV. He and his colleagues fought for the title in the Niederrhein district class, which was often narrowly missed in previous years. With his participation, however, the MSV became Lower Rhine champions for the first time in the club's history at the end of the 1928/29 season. As a result, the team was allowed to participate in the West German championship . With a 4-2 win over FC Schalke 04 , in which Klein scored the third goal for Meiderich, they also qualified for the German championship finals in 1929 . The championship in the west was missed due to a loss in a playoff against Schalke. In the fight for the national title, the team met the reigning champions Hamburger SV in the round of 16 and Klein, who had not yet been one of the regular players in the league, was called up in this encounter. In the 81st minute he was able to equalize the lead of the North Germans to 2-2, but shortly before the end of the game, Franz Horn scored for Hamburg, whereby Meiderich was eliminated.

On the Lower Rhine it was then about defending the title, but Homberger SV was able to prevail in 1930. A year later, however, succeeded in winning the championship again; Klein had now become one of the most important players. Third place was taken in the West German finals, so that MSV was allowed to play for the 1931 German championship . In the away game against TSV 1860 Munich , in which Klein was on the field, a 1: 4 defeat resulted in an immediate elimination. After that he remained part of the team that was able to defend the title on the Lower Rhine in 1932, but without being able to qualify for the nationwide finals.
