societies

The goal- scoring inner striker played for Schwarz-Weiß Essen until 1926 , of which he belonged early on. But he only had his heyday afterwards at Hamburger SV , to which he had switched in order to be able to play successfully across the region. He succeeded in this at the latest in 1928 when he contributed to the 4-1 goal in the final of the German championship in the 5-2 win over Hertha BSC in the Altona stadium . In the spring of 1930 he even scored seven (according to another source: five) goals in a game for the North German championship against Eintracht Braunschweig . In the first few years he played as a half-forward on the side of the HSV legend "Tull" Harder , later in his place as a striker. He was a good technician and gambler, but is said to have preferred to avoid duels. In his six years in Hamburg he played 105 championship games and scored 121 goals - a "dream rate" of 1.15 goals per game, even if you have to consider that his HSV in Hamburg and northern Germany was almost unrivaled and only not as 1929/30 Participant in the final round of the German Championship. In these finals he played a total of eleven games. in which he scored seven goals.

Due to a serious knee injury, he returned to Schwarz-Weiß Essen in 1932, which the wine and spirits trader supported with advice and money after completing his career (1935).

Selection / national team

Between September 1928 and October 1929 he played three international matches for the senior national team , with his team winning all three matches: 2-1 against the national team of Denmark , 4-0 against the national team of Finland and 3-0 against the national team of Sweden . In this circle, however, he did not succeed and he played much more inhibited than in the club. In 1928 he also took part in the Olympic football tournament in Amsterdam , but was not used.

With the North German selection, in which he encounters in twelve - taken together, cup and friendly matches - had been called, he reached three times (by Jankowski et al only twice.) The final of the German Cup ; In 1930, Northern Germany won it (2-0 against Brandenburg), and he scored one of the two goals. He also played seven games in the Hamburg selection between 1928 and 1931 and scored three goals. Already at a young age he had been appointed to the West German selection several times.
