Heinrich Kraft (politician, 1903)

Heinrich Kraft , called Heiner Kraft , (* July 28, 1903 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 22, 1971 ibid) was the mayor of his hometown from 1960–1971.

Kraft belonged to the SPD and was initially a social insurance specialist until he was dismissed as an employee of the AOK in 1933 due to his political stance . During the Nazi era, he supported Jews and other persecuted people, some of whom he helped to flee Germany.

Kraft had been active as a city councilor since 1948 and was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in Frankfurt's city parliament from 1953 to 1960. He was then elected head of the city council and held this office until he died in 1971 at the age of 67.

Several institutions named after him in Frankfurt commemorate him, especially in the Fechenheim district , where there is a Heinrich Kraft Park. The former Heinrich Kraft School was renamed School am Mainbogen in January 2018 as part of a change of image and a new educational concept .
