Heinrich Laakmann (born October 6, 1840 in Mehr , Rees district ; † December 1, 1924 in Hamborn ) was a German Catholic clergyman .

Life

As a student, Laakmann attended the Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck boarding school . He then completed a degree in theology at the University of Münster and was ordained a priest on August 3, 1867 . After further studies in Paderborn, he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD. He then got the position as chaplain in Waldniel , where he was also the principal of the secondary school. Together with Pastor Anton Mömken, he was involved in the construction of the St. Matthias Church. In July 1891 he became pastor in Tönisberg , where he quickly raised money for a church through letters and collections, and in 1895 made it possible to rebuild the parish church of St. Antonius . A year later the new rectory was also available.

Even before the Tönisberg church consecration , he was transferred to the St. Johann church in Hamborn on January 18, 1896 . The congregation grew from 10,000 to 90,000 members during his time there due to industrialization and was divided into seven parishes and two rectorates; Laakmann was appointed dean of the Hamborn deanery. In 1905, on the site of the old abbey, he managed to set up a lyceum as a high school for girls , today's episcopal abbey high school . He also enlarged the neighboring Johannes Hospital several times .

He died in this Johannes Hospital at the age of 84 and was buried in the cloister of the church.

Honors

During his lifetime he received various honors as a Dome of Honor , Papal Chamberlain and the Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice . Later streets near his churches in Hamborn and Tönisberg were named after him.
