Heinrich Mentzel

Heinrich Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Mentzel (born July 14, 1838 , †  February 23, 1901 in Schönebeck (Elbe) ) was a German mining official and salt office director of the Schönebeck saltworks .

Life

In 1883 Mentzel took over the office of salt office director of the Schönebeck salt works, which he held until the end of his life. It gained particular importance through the development of the steam drum dryer for drying the evaporated salt , through which a significantly better utilization of the salt was possible. The apparatus was introduced in 1884. The patent for the invention was Mentzel on 10 July 1895. In 1890 appointed Schönebecker salt pit , he led the spraying method for brine production one.

He also made great contributions to the spa in Bad Salzelmen , where the saltworks was located. He expanded the grounds of the spa park in the direction of Bierer Berg .

Memorial stone in the spa gardens

Honors

After his death, a memorial stone was placed in the Bad Salzelmen spa gardens in 1902 , which is still there today. A plaque was later added to the memorial stone explaining Mentzel's achievements.
