Heinrich Suchting

Heinrich Süchting (born May 11, 1880 in Arfrade , † May 24, 1962 in Nuremberg ) was a German soil scientist and university professor at the Hann. Münden .

Süchting studied natural sciences in Berlin and Göttingen, where he received his doctorate in 1906. He studied with Theodor Remy in Berlin and Emil Haselhoff at the Marburg experimental station . In Göttingen he was assistant to Seelhoff and Bernhard Tollens . In 1907 he went to the Bremen moor research station under Bruno Tacke as a department head . In 1912 he was appointed professor of chemistry, mineralogy and geology at the Hann forest academy. Münden. In 1919, when it was converted into a forestry university, he was given a full chair for soil science and the management of the institute for soil science. He developed the first ways of liming the forest floor. In 1948 he retired after serving several times as rector and, after 1945, as dean of the forestry faculty of the University of Göttingen . In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler .
