Heinrich Scholz (born December 11, 1933 in Friedrichshain , Niederlausitz, † March 1, 2003 ) was an economic functionary of the GDR and 1989/90 Minister for Transport of the GDR.

Life

As the son of a commercial clerk, he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk after attending primary school from 1948 to 1951. In 1948 he became a member of the FDJ and the FDGB . From 1951 to 1956 he worked as an accountant in the GDR's state financial audit department , and from 1956 to 1961 as head of accounting in the GDR airline Deutsche Lufthansa . In 1958 he became a member of the SED and completed a distance learning course at the University of Economics by 1963, graduating with a degree in economics. From 1961 to 1973 he worked at Interflug as a department head, specialist director and deputy general director.

In 1973 he moved to the Ministry of Transport , where he initially held the position of deputy department head for planning, then that of the main department head for economics. From 1980 to 1986 he was Deputy Minister there and from 1986 to 1989 State Secretary. In November 1989 he became Minister of Transport and General Director of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the Modrow government . On December 6, 1989 he was replaced by Herbert Keddi as Director General of the DR , and in February 1990 he also resigned as Minister.
