from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Heinrich Christian Schwenterley (born August 22, 1749 in Göttingen , † December 14, 1814 in Göttingen) was a German engraver and miniature painter.

Life

Schwenterley worked in Göttingen, where he had worked as a university engraver at the Georg August University since 1791 . Numerous professor portraits of well-known Göttingen university professors of his time have been preserved, including that of Johann Dominik Fiorillo based on his own template. Georg Christoph Lichtenberg recorded his portrait in the Sudel books and there, with “Schwenterlein ... me painted”, indicates that Schwenterley was actually called Schwenderlein . The Göttingen Municipal Museum has a self-portrait as a miniature as well as a miniature portrait of the bookseller Aderholz made by Schwenterley. In 1790 he signed the portrait of the lawyer Georg Ludwig Böhmer with “H. Schwenterleij "and z. B. 1801 with "Schwenterley University Copper Engraver of Göttingen".
